Spam Warning - Fraudulent email containing malware appearing to come from DIAC

I imagine many of us who might receive an email suggesting it comes from DIAC would immediately open it - but for the time being check first - we received this warning today.

DIAC has advised that emails from "diac.Contact.Centre.noreply@immi.gov.au" do not come from DIAC and that this is NOT a valid departmental email address.

As DIAC says on there website, Spam Warning - Fraudulent email containing malware appearing to come from DIAC

"We have received a number of reports that there is currently an email being sent with an attachment that contains malicious content, more commonly known as 'malware'. The email, when received, has the appearance that it has been sent from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

The email will appear to have been sent from 'diac.contact.centre.noreply@immi.gov.au' and the content of the email has information that appears to contain legitimate departmental information such as phone numbers and links to the department's website.

This email is not legitimate. You will never receive an email from the department from this email address.

If you have received this email, you should:

immediately delete the email
not reply to the sender
not forward the email
not open the attachment.
We have reported this incident to the appropriate authorities to assist with investigations. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the department."
